Steel caskets offer a range of colors finishes and thickness ranging from 16 gauge (thicker) to 20 gauge (thinner). Cathodic protection is also used on carbon steel caskets to prevent rust from occurring on their outer surfaces. When corrosion begins, a magnesium bar on the bottom of the casket is sacrificed, since magnesium is oxidized more easily than the iron in the steel; thus prevent the formation of rust. |
