Calvin Maynard Miller's courageous battle with cancer came to an end on Wednesday, March 29, 2006. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and papa to his wife of 43 years, Betsy Ligon Miller; daughter, Michelle Whitlock and husband, Roy, of Charlottesville, Va.; son, John Richardson Miller II and his wife, Kim, of Midlothian, Va.; grandson, John R. Miller III; granddaughters, Christina Miller and Rachel Whitlock; and much loved cat, Patches. Calvin, son of the late John R. and Ellena Miller, was also predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Charlie, and Harold; and his sister, Beatrice Hardister, all of North Carolina. Survivors are his brother, Wayne Miller and his wife, Frankie, of Arlington, Va.; sisters-in-law, Jessie Miller (Charlie) of Biscoe, N.C., and Jean Ligon Pierce and her husband, Herbert (Shag), of Florence, Ky.; numerous nieces and nephews. Calvin, an Army Korean War veteran, was a sport enthusiast. He played baseball, basketball, football, and his favorite, golf. He was retired from over 40 years in steel fabrication management that included positions in Greensboro, N.C., Clarksville, Va., Quarryville, Pa., Richmond, and Chester, Va. He was a member of Huguenot Road Baptist Church. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Homes' Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Saturday, April 1, 2006, from 5 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. Dr. Bert Browning, of Huguenot Road Baptist Church, officiating.
