WASSERMAN, Martele Sporn, 83, died February 19, 2012. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean K. Sporn Scherr; her father, Michael Sporn; and her husband, Albert J. Wasserman, M.D., F.A.C.P. She is survived by her brother, Dr. I. Norman Sporn (Patricia); her sister, Cheryl Rose Sporn Gross (William); her daughters, Gail W. Hart (Julian), Rae S. Rosenthal (Jay), Cantor Beth W. Rosenfeld (Rabbi Ira); and her six grandchildren, Micah Hart (Joanna) and Carlyn Butcher (Steve), Evan and Shira Rosenthal and Jonah and Eli Rosenfeld; as well as nieces, Ellyn Butler (Raymond), Karen Franco (Allan); nephew, David Sporn (Alisa); great-nephews, Nissim Franco, Isaac Franco, Scott Butler and Daniel Sporn; and great-nieces, Luna Rosendorf (Baruch), Michelle Butler, Talia Franco and Kayla Sporn. Martele graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, attended the College of William and Mary, and graduated from the Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU). She was secretary for many years to Dr. William T. Sanger, president of MCV. She was president of the Beth Sholom Auxiliary and a lifelong member of Temple Beth-El. She was a chocoholic and was happiest when surrounded by her family at their beach house in Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, on Tuesday, February 21, at 2:30 p.m., followed by interment at Beth-El Forest Lawn. Shiva will take place at Beth Sholom Gardens, 2001 Lauderdale Drive.
