Obituary

SZABO, Brian E., 55, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but recently of Richmond, Va., passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Walsh Szabo. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Christine E. Szabo; and their four children, Erin, Emily, Colin and Paul Szabo, all of Richmond; father, Raymond Paul Szabo of Cleveland, Ohio; siblings, Karla Shiley of Avon Lake, Ohio and Anne Wynn (Mike) of Austin, Texas; mother-in-law, Sandra Batista (Daniel) of Vermilion, Ohio; brother- in-law, Steven Earley (Jennifer) of Columbus, Ohio; eight nieces and nephews, and many loving family members and friends. He was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked 26 years with SunTrust and its predecessor, most recently as Executive Vice President of Corporate Risk. Brian was a board member of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. In addition to being an enthusiastic Cleveland sports fanatic, he enjoyed spending time with good friends playing golf, tennis and playing the drums in several bands. Brian traveled and spent time with family and lifelong friends in Atlanta and Richmond. His pride and joy were his children. He often went to work early so he could attend and help coach their activities. His love, hopes and dreams for them were first and foremost in his life; he was always proud of them. His sharp wit and keen sense of humor were appreciated by all who knew him. A gathering of family and friends will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235-2618.
